IUPHAR-Ed Newsletter - December 2024

Welcome to the December edition of the IUPHAR Education Section newsletter.
This month, our Australasian colleagues hosted the ASCEPT-APFP-APSA Joint Meeting in Melbourne, Australia, while the British Pharmacological Society hosted its annual meeting in Harrogate, UK.
Both meetings offered a broad range of education-focused sessions. At the BPS meeting, Professor Paul White delivered the ASCEPT Keynote Lecture, Rethinking Pharmacology Education: The Core Concepts of Pharmacology. The programme also included an Education Innovation Session and symposia on assessment in pharmacology education, ethnicity, ancestry and race in pharmacology education and research, and many other topics.
At the ASCEPT-APFP-APSA Joint Meeting, the programme included a workshop on pharmacogenomics education, a symposium on authentic learning and oral presentations covering educational approaches such as gamification, virtual reality, self-regulated learning and the use of generative AI to support objective structured clinical examinations.
Both meetings also hosted workshops on applying the Core Concepts of Pharmacology across a range of professions. More than 850 delegates from across Australasia attended the ASCEPT-APFP-APSA meeting, and the education-themed sessions were very well attended.
