The International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR)
is a voluntary, non-profit association representing the interests of pharmacologists around the world through promoting international cooperation, sponsoring regional activities, encouraging free exchange of scientists and ideas, developing public awareness, the Nomenclature and Standards Committee of IUPHAR (NC-IUPHAR),
and the GUIDE TO PHARMACOLOGY.

and the GUIDE TO PHARMACOLOGY.
IUPHAR is structured into specialized Sections and Committees that guide its scientific, clinical, and strategic activities across the full spectrum of pharmacology.
Together, they provide international leadership and expert coordination, advancing research, collaboration, and governance within the global pharmacology community.
The Clinical & Translational Section coordinates IUPHAR’s work across multiple committees focused on the application of pharmacological science to human health. It brings together expertise spanning clinical research, drug development, population studies, and patient-centred pharmacology.
Through its committees, the Section addresses key clinical and translational challenges, supporting the generation of robust evidence and the safe, effective use of medicines across diverse populations and healthcare settings.
The Early Career Researchers Subcommittee strengthens IUPHAR by integrating the perspectives of emerging pharmacologists into its scientific and strategic activities. It represents early career researchers at an international level, ensuring their voices contribute to decision-making, innovation, and the future direction of the field.
By enabling global collaboration, professional growth, and leadership development, the Subcommittee helps build a connected, forward-looking community of pharmacologists prepared to shape the next generation of research and practice.
The NC‑IUPHAR Section leads the international standardization of pharmacological nomenclature and classification, providing authoritative frameworks for biological targets and drug interactions. Through expert-driven guidelines and the development of the Guide to Pharmacology, it supports research, education, and innovation by ensuring clarity, consistency, and accessibility across the global pharmacology community within IUPHAR.
Learn moreIUPHAR-Ed is a dynamic global community of educators in basic, clinical and translational fields of pharmacology.
We have recently introduced new initiatives to actively promote access to educational materials, collaboratively develop new resources, discuss matters related to pharmacology education and more.
The Basic and Translational Section brings together core areas of pharmacology that bridge fundamental discovery and real-world application.
Through its committees, the Section supports collaboration, methodological rigor, and the translation of biological insight into better therapeutic strategies across diverse disease areas.
