IUPHAR CALL FOR NOMINATIONS – NOW CLOSED
The International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR) Nominations Committee is reviewing nominations for President-Elect, Secretary General and Executive Committee positions. The terms for all the positions will begin July 1st, 2024.
Role: President-Elect
Qualifications:
- Nominated by an IUPHAR member society in good standing.
- Nominees for President-Elect should have served on the Executive Committee.
Responsibilities of Role:
- Chairs the executive committee in the absence of the President.
- Gets acquainted with the society governance, strategy, activities and projects in order to prepare for the office of President.
- Works with secretary-general to be informed of IUPHAR’s activities, i.e., communication with member societies.
- Works with officers on society governance, strategy, activities.
- Serves as a member of the Executive Committee.
Term of Role:
The President-Elect shall hold office for two (2) years, 2024-2026, and will become President for two (2) additional years, 2026-2028 upon completion of his/her term as President-Elect.
For information: Responsibilities of the President:
- Leads and represents IUPHAR internationally.
- Overviews strategy, governance and performance to reach the objects of IUPHAR.
- Leads regular meetings with officers, executive committee and member societies.
- Member of the WCP international scientific board.
- Serves as a member of the Executive Committee.
Role: Secretary-General
Qualifications:
- Nominated by an IUPHAR member society in good standing.
- Nominees for Secretary-General should have served on the Executive Committee.
Responsibilities of Role:
- Coordinates IUPHAR’s activities worldwide
- Introduces, with the President, the President-Elect to IUPHAR’s activities
- Manages and liaises with executive office, and thereby ensures record keeping
- Links with sections, on strategic plan, and with planning of World Congresses.
- Edits IUPHAR News
- Covers arising issues not otherwise covered by officers or sections.
Term of Role:
The Secretary-General shall hold office for four (4) years, 2024-2028.
Chair: Basic and Translational Pharmacology
Qualifications:
- Nominated by an IUPHAR member society in good standing.
Responsibilities of Role:
- Leads basic and translational pharmacology worldwide, via the section and attached committees.
- Supports the development of basic pharmacology and immunopharmacology in all its forms, in hospital, academia, industry and biotech.
- Organizes fund raising to support the activities of the section and committees
- Works with NC-IUPHAR and the Clinical and Translational Pharmacology Section on translational research.
Term of Role:
The Chair of the Basic and Translational Pharmacology Section shall hold office for four (4) years, 2024-2028.
Chair: Education Section
Qualifications:
- Nominated by an IUPHAR member society in good standing.
Responsibilities of Role:
- Coordinates IUPHAR’s activities in education in basic and clinical pharmacology, including educational database initiatives.
- Ensures financial and content viability of Pharmacology Education Project (PEP) and its relevancy worldwide.
- Liaises with Pharmacology Education Project office.
Term of Role:
The Chair of the Education Section shall hold office for four (4) years, 2024-2028.
Chair: Governance Section
Qualifications:
- Nominated by an IUPHAR member society in good standing.
Responsibilities of Role:
- Ensures ethics, diversity and correct governance is maintained within IUPHAR and that IUPHAR/Executive Office has a full set of guidelines.
- Identifies and supports prospective memberships for IUPHAR with input from the Officers and EC.
- Oversees voting procedures.
Term of Role:
The Chair of the Governance Section shall hold office for four (4) years, 2024-2028.
Member-at-large
Qualifications:
- Nominated by an IUPHAR member society in good standing.
Responsibilities of Role:
- Liaising closely with Secretary-General in communication with member societies and further tasks.
- In cooperation with the other Member-at-large, this role will focus on the needs and opportunities of pharmacology in resource-limited countries world-wide to work towards solutions.
Term of Role:
The Member-at-large shall hold office for four (4) years, 2024-2028.
Nominations will be accepted until 1 December 2023. Please send the nominee’s name and the position of the nomination to the IUPHAR Association Manager, Addison Propes at apropes@parthenonmgmt.com.
The Nominations Committee will develop a shortlist of candidates on 15 December 2023 for IUPHAR Officers’ and Executive Committee approval. A ballot to IUPHAR members will be emailed on 12 January 2024.
